Client Overview

The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail is one of Victoria’s premier cycling and walking destinations, attracting visitors from across Australia. As part of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail Enhancements Project, Alpine Shire Council sought to replace the existing narrow Roberts Creek bridge with a safer and more accessible structure capable of supporting increasing visitor numbers.

The bridge forms a key connection between Bright and Porepunkah along the busiest section of the trail. The project formed part of the Victorian Government-funded enhancements program delivered by Tourism North East in partnership with Alpine Shire, Indigo Shire and the Rural City of Wangaratta.

Struktis was engaged to design, engineer, fabricate and construct the new pedestrian and cyclist bridge, delivering a structure that improves safety while supporting the long-term growth of regional tourism.

Engineering Solution

Struktis delivered a purpose-designed bridge to replace the existing crossing over Roberts Creek, providing a significantly wider structure that improves the movement of cyclists, pedestrians and other trail users.

The bridge was engineered to accommodate the demands of a heavily used shared path while delivering long-term structural performance with minimal maintenance. Its design integrates seamlessly with the surrounding trail infrastructure and provides a durable crossing capable of supporting year-round public use.

Following completion of the bridge, the structure became the canvas for The Colour Bridge, a large-scale public artwork by Melbourne creative studio Skunk Control, creating a distinctive landmark along the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail.

Project Outcomes

The completed Roberts Creek Pedestrian & Cyclist Bridge provides a safer, wider and more accessible crossing for thousands of users travelling between Bright and Porepunkah each year.

As part of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail Enhancements Project, the bridge supports improved visitor experience while strengthening one of regional Victoria’s most popular tourism assets. The project demonstrates Struktis’ capability to deliver durable pedestrian bridge solutions that combine engineering performance with community and tourism outcomes.
