Project Overview
Struktis was engaged to deliver a new 42m clear span truss pedestrian bridge for the City of Casey, replacing an aging timber structure with a modern, high-performance design. The project aimed to improve pedestrian and cyclist access across the site while meeting strict safety, durability, and user experience standards.

Scope of Works
- Full demolition of the existing timber bridge
- Construction of new concrete abutments and approach paths
- Fabrication and installation of a steel truss bridge
- Protective zinc epoxy coating system rated to Class 3 corrosion category

Design & Engineering
The bridge was designed to comply fully with AS5100.2 for structural loading, deflection limits, and dynamic performance. In line with Austroads recommendations, the structure supports both pedestrian and cyclist usage, with safety and comfort as key priorities.

Vibration Management
Due to the nature of long-span pedestrian bridges, resonance and vibration control were essential. Struktis incorporated a specially designed mass tuned damper underneath the bridge to prevent resonance issues that can occur at frequencies under 5 Hz.
Post-installation testing recorded a resonant frequency of approximately 9 Hz, ensuring a stable, user-friendly experience for pedestrians.

Outcome
The project was delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and structural performance. The new truss bridge now provides long-term, low-maintenance access for pedestrians and cyclists, enhancing connectivity within the City of Casey while preserving safety and user comfort.
